Introduction

A
key destination on the French Riviera, internationally known for
its Film Festival, Cannes has built its worldwide reputation on
the quality and range of services it offers visitors: fine sandy
beaches, the Isles of Lérins, four-star hotels on La Croisette
and luxury shops, its exceptionally beautiful bay and flower
gardens...
The
prestigious artistic events that punctuate the year, major
conventions and festivals that set the pace for its dynamic
economy, have in no way altered the incomparable charm of this
Provençal town and its magical environment.
Historical
notes
Cannes
riches and renown are due largely to the misfortune of a past
Lord Chancellor of England (1830 – 1834) Lord Brougham (who
designed the four wheeled one horse carriage which bears his
name, the brougham).
He
was on his way to Nice in 1934 when he contracted Cholera which
prevented him from crossing the cordon sanitaire and
forced him to rest in Cannes. The place, then a small fishing
village, pleased him so much that he built himself a house and
remained there until he died 34 years later.
Lord
Brougham exchanged the Winter fogs of London for the
Mediterranean sunshine and his example was soon followed by the
English aristocracy. Today of course, it remains a popular
holiday destination at any time of the year, not just for the
British but for people from all over the world.
Cannes
Festivals
The
Cannes Festivals are world famous. Amongst the most famous are,
the International Record and Music Market in January,
International Market for Television in April & May and of
course, the International Film Festival in May – the most
spectacular artistic gathering on the Riviera.
Palais des
Festivals
Ideally
located on the Croisette, near the old harbour, opposite the sea
and one of the most beautiful views in the world, the Palais des
Festivals is just a few minutes away from most of the hotels and
luxury hotels. The proximity enables all visitors go to the
Palais on foot from their hotels while enjoying the beauty of
the city and its bay without the problem of morning traffic jams
encountered in big cities. In the evenings, it is a real
pleasure to be able to relax, go for a stroll, dine out and
perhaps continue the night among friends in a city of a size
enabling it to maintain a friendly atmosphere.
